Formal Complaint – Burger World Algonquin
I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment regarding an experience my family and I had today at Burger World on Algonquin.
This was our first time dining at this location. While seated, we were positioned behind a booth of three women whose conversation quickly became openly racist and derogatory. They made repeated negative remarks about Brown people, Indigenous people, and Black people — including comments about hygiene, appearance, names, and harmful stereotypes about receiving “free” benefits and “taking tax money.” The language and tone were offensive and dehumanizing.
These comments were made loudly and clearly within a public dining area. My husband, who is African, and I, who am Indigenous, had walked directly past this table before sitting down. The volume and persistence of the conversation made it impossible not to hear. This continued for approximately thirty minutes while we waited for our food.
After enduring repeated racist remarks, I addressed the individuals directly and expressed that their comments were unacceptable and offensive. The interaction escalated verbally. A manager (a woman wearing glasses) approached and asked both parties to stop, stating we were disturbing other guests — which I understand.
However, what followed was extremely concerning. The manager then spent approximately ten minutes at our table emphasizing that she personally knew the family involved and that they had “mixed children” in their family. She repeatedly stated she was not taking sides, yet focused heavily on defending them and suggesting we should not have been listening to their “private conversation.”
It is important to note this occurred in a public dining space where the conversation was loud and ongoing. Suggesting we were at fault for hearing repeated racist remarks is dismissive and inappropriate. At no point did the manager apologize for the experience, acknowledge the harm caused, or express that such comments are not tolerated in the establishment.
We ultimately chose to leave because it became clear that our concerns were not being validated and that the situation would not be handled appropriately. The only apology we received was from the cashier when we paid.
As an Indigenous, mixed-race family in 2026, this experience was unacceptable. Public spaces should be safe and respectful for everyone. I am disappointed not only by the behavior of the individuals involved, but by the lack of meaningful response from management.
I hope this matter is taken seriously.
Burger world is a great place to have a meal that taste like home. The environment and the staff work very hard to always keep their smile on regardless of how busy it is they maintain all their steps. This place is a bilingual environment, if you’re looking for English or French service, they could provide it. Very kid friendly, I find a lot of places now days they don’t have patience or love for the children. In the industry, they are too fixated onto the students or business incorporating people, but when it comes to family well You know the owner is a family man you feel the vibe throughout his store.
Every time I go to this place, they make the food with so much pride. They do good with those portions. They actually put the ketchup and vinegar without feeling that you have to bug the waitress for two seconds but no, they’re on it.
Thank you Burger world for making a safe place where a mother could sit and have a meal with her kids ❤️
Here’s a picture of the food I ordered, a chicken Caesar wrap with the poutine (with bacon)
Also the only reason why I gave it 4 stars it’s because I do find it expensive but I guess we’re going for quality.
Maybe if they had fountain drinks, their meals would come with drinks,?? but everything is separate all because they have bottles.
Meals do not come with beverage but their breakfast comes with coffee as far as I know, in the end after eating their your belly feels full. And your around family people.

Burger world used to be one of the few spots in North Bay you were always guaranteed a good meal and experience. Unfortunately, the last couple of orders have been anything but good. The quality of ingredients and attention to detail is no longer there. My order tonight will be the last, ordered a baked potato poutine with crispy fries and instead was given raw fries, raw fried onions, no sour cream thats listed in the menu desription as included, gloopy gravy and stuffed sideways into a too small delivery bag. ( This was not the fault of the delivery driver the meal was packaged and handed over to the driver with the poutine on its side in an upright bag). For a $20.99 (not including taxes and fees which was $28.09) poutine the product should have been fully cooked and packaged properly. The last few times we have sat down in the restaurant have been just as bad, the tables are always dirty, and the servers are too busy gossiping and drinking booze behind the side counter to provide service. Save your money and visit other local businesses or cook at home. Either way, you're guaranteed the food will be better.
